About the Wonderland Creative Center:

Wonderland Creative Center is named after the Wonderland Amusement Park that used to exist in this neighborhood over 100 years ago. From 1905 to 1911 there was a 10-acre carnival that had a giant log flume and a 45-mph roller coaster. Just like the community-building and creatively-inspiring experience it is to go to an amusement park the Wonderland Creative Center also values:

  • building joyful community

  • enjoying the outdoors

  • inspiring creativity through art education

The Wonderland Creative Center thoughtfully and intentionally brings these 3 values together in its summer day camp program: community, nature and art education.

Young artists ages 6-12 and interns ages 13-18 are given the opportunity to build lasting friendships and connect meaningfully with the natural world. Students will learn about themselves through meditation, mindful movement and relaxation in nature.

Young artists are given quality art supplies, beautiful materials and taught how to paint using the tippy tip of the paintbrush or how to blend oil pastels. This summer day camp gives young artists the creative freedom and relaxing time to draw, paint and sculpt in their own way. WCC’s art lessons teach an understanding of artistic principles and a mastery of many quality art materials. Integrated into each art lesson students learn about ancient and cultural history, ecology and life sciences, literature, geography and anthropology.

WCC’s summer art program follows a child’s natural need to move and explore. We hike to the beautiful white sand beach along the Mississippi River which provides a natural setting for young artists to play and create in. All drop-off (9 am) and pick-up (4 pm) of children will be located at Wonderland Creative Center in the Seward neighborhood of Minneapolis. If needed, we have converted our garage into a beautiful art studio and classroom. An important part of the WCC art experience is our big backyard gallery art show on Friday from 3:00-4:00 pm. This gives the young artists the full experience of creating art from idea to finished art displayed on the wall. The excitement and energy of the art show is a special experience and a great way to end an important week of art, nature and fun!
