Wonderland Creative Center’s Summer Art Program is a unique outdoor learning experience for children ages 6-12. Our weeklong camp incorporates lessons about world cultures, artists and art history, nature and animals, and the use of artist-quality materials through a variety of creative projects. This summer we will "Explore World Cultures through Art!" Young artists will delight in using paper mache to craft 3-D African animal masks, natural clay to sculpt clay fish from the Chinese folkstory Yeh-Shen, and colorful oil pastels and watercolor paints to play with the intricate forms of Australian dot art and the European master painters. We will also make Japanese uchiewa fans, Mola colorful collages and Egyptian hieroglyphs!
Ours is a holistic approach to learning. In WCC’s backyard art studio, children will hear incredible books and dive into thoughtful creative projects. Mindfulness and movement meditation are a daily part of the program, as are hikes through the woods and free nature play along the shores of the Mississippi River. Adding to the fun, our young artists have the meaningful experience of putting on a show, hosting friends and family as they display their artworks in our outdoor gallery at week’s end (art shows are held each Friday of the program at 3:00pm).
